Minister’s Toolbox is the place to come for advice, encouragement, and resources to help you do the most important work in the world: ministry. Most pastors (including me) like “free stuff.” Many of us live on tight budgets. That is why most of what you will find here is free, no strings attached.*
Each week, I share insights gained from over 40 years of ministry. My goal is to strengthen pastors and church leaders in their callings and provide tools to be successful in life and ministry.
1500 pastors leave the ministry each month. Most who do not serve in this capacity do not understand the pressures and challenges pastors face every day. Insensitive people love to joke that pastors only work two hours each week. The truth is much different. Most most work between 50-70 hours, neglecting their families, health and even their retirement options. Let’s change that if we can.
Each 15-minute podcast covers topics like:
- Why Weddings Are a Minister’s Best Friend
- Sex and the Minister
- How To Ruin a Good Funeral
- How To Survive Betrayal
- Why Preachers Kids Walk Away From The Church
- How Do You Set Goals And Stick To Them?
…and many, many more. You can listen on your computer or smartphone, anywhere and anytime. You can listen on ITunes, Stitcher Radio, SoundCloud, IHeart Radio and Google Play. One great feature about podcasts is that once you download them, you can listen anytime without worrying about WiFi connections. In addition, you are not constantly interrupted by commercial distractions. After you listen, most smartphones will delete the episode from your device automatically, but you can always listen again by pressing the feed button.
Subscribe here. This way, new podcasts will automatically upload to your phone each week. If you are feeling particularly generous, please leave an honest review after you listen. This helps us gain free exposure on the web. Transcripts of each show are available here. If you know another church leader who would benefit, send them this link.
Need Help Getting Started With Social Media? Start Here:
Due to high demand, I wrote an 11-page eBook designed to help pastors and church leaders navigate social media. How To Master Social Media not only provides basic information about Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest, it also addresses the important principles many violate when trying to reach new people.
Social media is designed to be social, much like church. Learning how to be yourself online is critical to effectively using this media for Christ.

Books I’ve Written
Writing is a passion of mine. When A Good Church Goes Bad that talks about what many people DON’T want to talk about: spiritual abuse. It is nearly certain that you have people in your church who have been deeply hurt by the church. How can you help them start to heal and restore their passion? When a Good Church Goes Bad is a great tool that helps Christians get back on track and make sense of what happened to them.
The book comes with a free online course that serves as a workbook to delve deeper into the issue. Available in paperback, Kindle and audio book formats. You can read the first three chapters for free here.
I have also written Titanic Warning.
Four ships played a key role in the destiny of the passengers of Titanic over one hundred years ago. Each ship was led by a captain with a specific view o the world that ultimately determined the role they would play that fateful night.
Leadership matters in churches and Titanic Warning will challenge every reader to become the leader God meant meant them to be. Ideal for group study, as each chapter is followed by discussion questions. Recently updated in Kindle.
